天安门坐落在中华人民共和国首都北京的市中心，故宫的南侧，与天安门广场隔长安街相望。始建于明永乐十五年（1417年），原是明、清两朝皇城的正门。
1949年10月1日，中华人民共和国在这里举行了开国大典，它由此成为现代中国的象征，并被设计入国徽。1961年，天安门被中华人民共和国国务院公布为第一批全国重点文物保护单位之一。
Tiananmen Square is the large plaza near the centre of Beijing, China, named after the Tiana-
nmen which sits to its north, separating it from the Forbidden City. Tian’anmen is located along the northern edge of Tiananmen Square. Tian’anmen Gate was the principal entry to the Imperial Palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
It is one of the finest monumental gates in the world, extraordinary for its imposing size, Ornamental Columns (huabiao), stone lions and white marble bridges decorate the front.
